Altrincham Grammar School for Girls has been awarded the top spot in The Schools Guide 2016, published by Trinity Mirror.
Beating off fierce competition, Altrincham Grammar School for Girls ranks number 1, out of 3109 state schools across England. The school, located on Cavendish Road, Bowdon, Altrincham, Cheshire, WA14 2NL, has been awarded this prestigious place based on a variety of factors. According to The Schools Guide 2016, 100% of pupils this year achieved 5 GCSE grades A*-C compared to the national average of 53%; 100% of pupils gained 3 or more A level grades compared to the national average of 78%. Both the average point score per pupil for GCSE and A level are rated ‘excellent’. Comparatively, 99% of pupils at Altrincham Grammar Schools for Boys achieved 5 GCSE grades A*-C and 100% achieved 3 or more A level grades.
These impressive grades results correlate with a variety of factors. Altrincham Grammar School for Girls has an exceptionally low persistent absence percentage of just 0.8%, compared to the national average of 2.75%. They also have only 9% of pupils whose first language is not English, whereas the national average for this is 12%. The school is, of course, rated Ofsted Outstanding.
With the accolade of being the number 1 school in the country, as well as the dramatic increase in ‘golden sector’ businesses in the area (professional, scientific and technical; information and communication; and financial and insurance businesses), there is expected to be a further boom in popularity for the area. Many families will be looking to move into Altrincham, Timperley, Hale, Hale Barns and Bowdon, to ensure their child has the best chance of attending Altrincham Grammar School for Girls, or one of the other outstanding Grammar schools in Trafford. Trafford council leader, Sean Anstee, confirms “We are proud to play our part in securing successful and prosperous communities, from great businesses to outstanding schools, all of which make Trafford the place to be”.
